Last weekend when Daphne and Jeremy were here, the last thing we did was backpack Rialto Beach, {must be the most sensational beach in the world ...shh don't tell}
I have been going here for many years now since moving to the PNW. I am always amazed by the powerful beauty of this ever changing beach, where old growth logs get washed out, or were once washed out, I presume, from the 3 rivers that flow into the Pacific from the Old growth forest...(The Hoh, and The Quileute, and The Bogieschiele). Leaving Rialto we had Bogie Burgers and chocolate shakes at The ThreeRivers Inn and Cafe...
I have hiked over these logs at night at high tide to Hole in the Wall Beach, amazing experience, because it is one of those times that you disappear; no body, no mind, just super consciousness, expanded into oneness. It took about 2.5 hours to hike this maybe 2 mile stretch on logs that other wise would take 40 minutes at most.
Ordinarily the hike is walking in deep wet sand and pebbles, with a pack on your back, and is a good work out, on large logs at night it is stupendous.
We hiked in at medium tide, and Jeremy carried a small pack and never once winced at his load or the trek. Daphne I think was totally amazed as so many people are when they see this amazing beach. So Saturday some people from Holland were at the trail head when we got back, and couldn't believe their eyes, and were asking "what in the world was further down the beach?"
So here are a few pictures of the wonder of Rialto Beach on the Pacific Coast of Washington.

It's a really nice place.
Nobu, hi! This beach is the other side of Japan. More than once orphan tsunamis from the Cascadia fault about 20 miles off this coast have caused a major tsunami, 400 years ago, 400 years before that, and 300 years before that. It has only recently been determined, and found out, I believe by Japanese scientist looking for the cause of the orphan tsunami.
What an exciting hike that must have been for not only you and your daughter but also for your grandson.
Thank you for sharing your trip and your photos with us.
Bear((( )))
You must have been more than ELATED, but also EXSTATIC having them come to visit. What a gorgeous area to EXPLORE together!
btw, love your music!
Hi Bear, yes, I was so happy, I have been trying to get them here for years. They live in Austin. I want them to move here and be able to enjoy the versatility of this beautiful area;
Leslie, you know how it is here, and BTW Leslie, we were in your city for a few days, and went to Granville, and Daphne was taking flower pictures by the hundreds.. and the aquarium was great fun.. I hung out with the jellies mostly.
I have good news , I am going to help arrange a back pack trip for Art of LIving Foundation in Seattle to Rialto in Sept. I can't wait.
And maybe we'll arrange a ferry to AK trip with the founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize for his work all over the world towards peace.
Tomorrow night in Seattle Mimi Gates is hosting an intro of Art of Living , I think at Seattle Art Museum.
I'll be going, should be interesting...
THank you all for your feedback, it is nice to hear from you, and share our lives this way!
Your photos are awesome and I am very impressed with Rialto Beach and the coast. I will definitely plan on a vacation up there. Not to far from Salem.
This is an absolutely beautiful post- the scenery, the serenity, the love reflected in your photos and words. You have passed on to me a bit the the peace of the place.
Love your new header, too.
Oh Sherry..I am so happy that that the camping trip went well and that you were able to share it in pictures. The one of your daughter and grandson in the tent is precious. And what stunning scenery you have. And also good news about the trip you are arranging. Very happy news!!!! @:}.. Michelle
Colombo, good you will will be coming, may I suggest Sept, Oct? The brown Pelicans fish there then usually, and weather is usually wonderful in fall. The pelicans are amazing to watch.
Linda, you are very thoughtful in your feedback, Thank you, Glad you like the beach header, too. I hope my daughter will make a point to come again before too long. would be nice if they lived nearby. I tried to sell her on the area, of course we barely scratched the surface. Didn't make it to Whidbey, or LaConner or San Juans, etc etc ...where does it end here, you know?
The tent shot is so sweet, isn'it?
Daphne collected driftwood, she would have taken all the beach of driftwood on the beach, I think. She could hardly believe how beautiful it was.
I have waited many years to get her to come visit, her older children have been twice. She came when I first moved here, many years ago.
I took John and Karen the (2nd time) to Alaska on the AK Ferry. Have you been? It is certainly worth the trip, amazing views and sunsets, etc.
Leslie, I am glad to hear you like the music, I think it is a nice beat, actually a chant by a woman who is a sikh. She has a delightfully clear voice. Eh?
Thanks to you all for your genuine comments.
Michelle, thanks for your appreciation, you are gifted at appreciation! The tent one is sweet, I'm glad I looked in on them, a shot made in heaven.
I am very happy to help plan a backpack trip for my group, a few are hikers, but most not, and many are from India, and I think will be very surprised at how incredible Rialto is. We'll have Satsang at Rialto.
I think it will be a special time for all, and hopefully the pelicans will be fishing, too.
Thanks Michelle.
Mom, This is a beautiful post. I'm still just in awe of everything we saw while we were there. It was a wonderful vacation, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - not just because of the cool places we got to see and things we got to do but because we got to spend such quality time with you and Mike. We are so appreciative! I love you, Daphne
Oh Daphne, thank you. It was so good to have you here. One of my blog friends that lives here had her kids out around the same time, you would appreciate seeing what they did, too (space needle shots). It is Linda Reeder. If you have time, check her blog out (above)
I appreciate hearing from you, and how much you enjoyed yourself and are still being with the experience and with me, too. Mike is happy to hear you had fun and all. Puddy misses you both too, it isn't the same in this house without you!
I miss you very much, it is a Mothers fate, I guess..:)
Of course fate is past tense, will is future tense, so we have opportunities ahead to create...
I still have photos to post..
(((Hugs)))), Mom
come back soon...! _()_
Wow! What an amazing adventure. The hole in the wall is so much like one down here in Skinningrove, a little fishing village. The contrast couldn't be greater.
Thanks so much for being part of the Wonderful ABC Day! We learn so much.
Dx
You know what I loved most in htis post? The love flow between you and your daughter&grandson. Beautiful photos of a joyous time. I do hope they soon are closer to you.
Thanks for our words of support in my omm post!
Kisses from Nydia.
Some beautiful shots here. And, I laughed when I saw the photo of the shoes! :-)
Fascinating series of pics and loved the comments attached!
Denise, Nydia,Maya, and Greyscale, thanks for coming by, and commenting,. It is great to hear your comments. I'd love to see this Skiningrove hole in the wall. Must be shoes and tents are familiar to you Maya? Not exactly under the tarp too good are they...
thank you all very much.
OH yes, that scene is very familiar to me. Though, most of my camping has been in the SW where you have to worry more about snakes than water getting in your shoes. Outside my tent (or no tent as the case may be), my shoes are always upside down for that reason!
Smart move Maya! I'll try upside down next time, one better! SW, where?
I grew up in Flagstaff, AZ, but we camped all over the SW... AZ, NM, UT, CO, etc. Actually, we camped all over the West. ;-)
